Vanguard Exhibit at Des Plaines Historical Society

After several months of work, negotiating and scheduling with the Des Plaines Historical Society, I have a display of Vanguard memorabilia at the DPHS. Special thanks to Ray Steffens for all his help to me in doing this.

Background: A few months ago, DPHS came across the Vanguard website quite by accident and expressed a great desire to have some information about us in their facility. A few months ago, I gave them written history, newspaper clippings, and pictures for their regular archives. At that time, Ray and I also agreed to put some Vanguard memorabilia on display.

Due to space limitations, it is not a huge display, but hopefully it will serve to enlighten those who did not know of us ever being from Des Plaines, and also refesh the memories of people who do remember us.

Also, if you go see the display, please understand that DPHS very understandably asked for memorabilia only from the period that we were in Des Plaines, so there is not much reference to Logan Square, Mel Tierney, Chicago, or Skokie as that was not their intent. So any of you who were members during those years please don't feel slighted. This limited time period exhibit was at DPHS's request.

The items will be on display from September 6th through early November. The address is

Des Plaines Historical Society
789 Pearson Street
Des Plaines, Illinois, 60016.

There is a link to the DPHS website in the "Links" section here on the Vanguard Website where, if needed, you can print a map and get directions.

One last request: If you do go to DPHS, admission is free, but PLEASE make a small donation in their donation jar - they can certainly use our financial support, and they are really nice people.

Thanks!

Jay M
